Basic information:
Conferences Center:
The International Conference on Financing for
Development will be held at Qatar International Center
for Conferences in Doha, which is adjacent to Hotel Doha
Sheraton, from November 29th, to December 2nd, 2008. The
conference is preceded by a meeting of the Ministers of
Foreign Affairs and by a meeting of the senior
employees, on November 27th and 28th (as required).
The Conferences Center is situated at distance of 5 km
away from Doha City Center. The State of Qatar has,
during the past two decades, achieved an extraordinary
record in organizing firstquality conferences and
providing excellent services and security for hosting
international events. Moreover, Qatar provides
translation, documentation, media and transportation
services.
The Conferences Center consists of three main meeting
halls, two lobbies, a media center, a business center,
and 12 offices.Themainconference hall consists of two
socio-political halls, two extraordinary meeting halls
and small meeting halls, restaurant lounges, and
secretariat offices.
In addition, the Center has a media center, a business
center for participants and offices for participant
countries and organizations.
Arrival of official delegates and
guests:
Reception at airport:
Participating delegations in the conference will arrive
at the Doha International Airport, which is just 7 km
away from Qatar International Conferences Center in
Doha.
In case of any emergency, an alternative airport in
Qatar shall be used, namely, Al-Udaid Military Base,
located 28 km west of Doha City.
Since the conference is an international event,
sponsored by the UN and in consideration of the huge
number of participating delegates, reception will be
accorded to heads of State and Government, ministers of
foreign affairs, ministers and ambassadors on their
arrival at Doha International Airport by ministers,
ambassadors and official personnel representing the
State of Qatar, through the following hospitality halls:
The heads of State and Government are received at the
Emiri Hall. The ministers are received at the
Ministerial Hall, whereas the senior officials are
received at the VIP Hall and at the Public Hall.
The civil escorts and representatives of Department of
Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will receive
all other members of the delegations, and the
participating journalists at the Public Arrival Hall at
Doha International Airport.
Facility desks will be opened at the airport to
facilitate the passport and customs procedures. In
addition, means of speedy delivery of baggage will be
provided to the participants. Embassies of member states
of the UN, which have diplomatic missions accredited to
Doha must inform the National Organizing Committee of
the Conference, of the names of their official
designates to follow-up steps of the sematters, in order
to ensure issuing them the required permissions to enter
the airport.
In case of UN member states, which have no embassies in
Doha, the delegates of such countries will receive
assistance from a special team constituted for this
purpose.
There will be an official protocol desk to attend
questions and address the requests of the participants
of the summit, both before and after the event.

Luggage:
The National Organizing Committee of the Conference
will, at the meeting of the vanguard Group, or through
the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to
the UN in New York, hand over the badges to facilitate
the location of the luggage brought by the participants
of the conference. Four different colours are chosen for
the purpose of distinction of luggage of the heads of
State and Government, ministers of foreign affairs,
agents and press.
A Committee will work at Doha International Airport. It
will be composed of representatives of Customs and other
institutions and of representatives appointed by
diplomatic missions of the UN member states accredited
to the State of Qatar, to speed up delivery of luggage.
Number of Qatari officials will assist the official
delegations ,which have no embassies in Qatar.
Information on Tourism, Car rents and Services:
An office will be allotted for Qatar Tourism Authority
,at the car park of Hotel Doha Sheraton, for the
official delegations and for press ,to address questions
and requirements of the participants of the conference,
on issues pertaining to tourism.
All hotels earmarked for accommodation of the
participants of the conference will advertise the names
of the nearest shopping centers that are open from 10.00
a.m. to 10.00 p.m. The hotels will also provide various
services for their residents from among the delegations
of the conference, including restaurants, coffee shops,
and other facilities.
Facilitation of the Work of the
Delegations:
Work office halls will be set up at the venue of the
conference. They will be fully prepared for the official
delegations and will be equipped with facilities such as
secretariat, computers with modems (to access Internet
and E-mails.), in addition to printers and keyboards
with the official work languages. Moreover,the halls
will be equipped with faxes, telephones, photocopiers
and other equipments, which may be used as offices or
desks.
Work Languages (The official work languages are the
official work languages adopted by the UN):
The official work languages are Arabic, English, French,
Spanish, Russian and Chinese. Simultaneous
interpretation and written translation will be provided
in these languages during the official sessions.
Coordination of Meetings with the Vanguard Group:
The National Organizing Committee of Conferences will
hold meetings to brief the representatives of the member
states of the UN about the logistical and organizational
details and the official program of the conference. The
meeting will be held in September 2008 in New York. As
well the Committee will hold another meeting in Doha,
with all the diplomatic missions accredited to the State
of Qatar, to address the protocol and security issues.
Meetings will also be held from November 1st to November
24th, 2008, with Vanguard Groups of the official
delegations, and with embassies of whose delegations
will be headed by heads of State and Government.
